Nestled in the foothills of the volcanic Nausori Highlands and close to beautiful Saweni beach, the Lautoka region is often bypassed by travellers in a hurry to get to one of Fiji’s many island resorts. However, those who take a couple of extra days to slow down and smell the tropical blooms are rewarded with deep relaxation, magnificent scenery and a star-studded history. For Hollywood actor Raymond Burr - best known for his roles in Perry Mason, Ironside and Hitchcock’s Rear Window – Fiji was a beloved escape from the stifling Hollywood studio system of the 60’s. He eventually built a home which has now been transformed into The Fiji Orchid, and established many jaw-dropping orchid gardens in the lush hills around Lautoka.
Discover the pleasures of ‘Fiji time’ with today’s Groupon for The Fiji Orchid:
• $210 for a one-night stay for two people ($420 value)
One night luxury accommodation in a Garden Bure for two including full a la carte breakfast for two, and return private transfers from/to Nadi International Airport/Denarau/Lautoka Wharf. Includes 20% Government Tax
• $617 for a three-night stay for two people ($1235 value)
In a Garden Bure with full a la carte breakfast daily; return private transfers to Nadi International Airport, Denarau, or Lautoka Wharf; two Fijian-inspired mini spa treatments per couple; pure Fiji gift pack; and a choice of one offsite activity: Bounty Island full tour including lunch and snorkelling, Viti Eco Half Day Tour of Viseisei Village and Sabeto warm mud pool; or Sleeping Giant orchid garden tour
Set in five acres of lush tropical gardens featuring a spectacular number and variety of orchids, The Fiji Orchid was once the treasured property of Raymond Burr, and is now an exclusive hideaway for the discerning traveller. Acclaimed by The Australian and The Brisbane Times, the resort features just six bures for an atmosphere of total privacy and serenity. After arriving via private transfer, Groupies lap up the luxury in a Garden Bure, enjoying a full a la carte breakfast each morning and access to facilities including a gorgeous swimming pool, spa and renowned restaurant boasting many great Australian wines. Breathe a sigh of relief with two Fijian-inspired mini spa treatments to set the mood, and continue the relaxation with a pure Fiji gift pack to take home.
The Fiji Orchid has been designed as a luxurious stopover for travellers keen to break the journey between Nadi airport and their Fijian island escape. Make time for relaxation by wandering through the paradisiacal gardens, exploding with orchids, ferns, fruit trees and hundreds of varieties of flowers, flourishing in the rich volcanic soil and surrounded by colourful butterflies and parrots. No visit to The Fiji Orchid would be complete without a meal at renowned Raymond’s restaurant, which is housed in the actor’s original home and specialises in fresh local seafood and tropical produce. Groupies have a choice of three fun activities: a full Bounty Island tour including lunch and snorkelling; a Viti Eco half-day tour of historic Viseisei Village and the famous Sabeto warm mud pool; or an awe-inspiring tour of the Sleeping Giant orchid garden, which is Burr’s other great Fijian legacy. The magnificent landscaped gardens are home to over 2000 varieties of orchids, set among lush native vegetation dotted with lily ponds.
As the appeal of The Fiji Orchid is its seclusion and privacy, there are no shops onsite. However, Fiji’s second largest city Lautoka is a ten-minute drive away, and features a few banks and other facilities, plus a picturesque waterfront esplanade. Nadi International Airport is 15 minutes away, and the friendly resort staff are on hand to organise any other transfers or tours beyond those which are included in this deal.
An eclectic mix of “old Hollywood” decadence framed by the splendour of Fiji’s native, natural landscape. This is a place for travellers who appreciate elegance, style and privacy. I have travelled to Fiji for 30+ years and, have enjoyed the pleasure and privilege of 5 star accommodations to back packer style. I can firmly endorse this place as owner Jenny Bourke would like to share with you “a sanctuary that will leave a lasting impression”.

We only stayed here for a short while en route to our holiday at Vatulele and back home. After Vatulele where we experienced a lot of discomfort with flies and mosquitoes and excessive humid heat, it was heaven to relax in the air conditioning, and have a lovely meal with excellent Australian wine. Then we had a swim in the pool and relaxed before freshening up for our flight home.

I have traveled often to Fiji, so I was looking for something different to the resort package deals you get so often in Fiji. Somewhere out of the way, quiet, lush, a pool and good food. I found it!
