The Hotel: Riverwood Downs
Riverwood Downs is a award-winning country retreat sprawled across 750 acres of Monkerai Valley. Boasting an onsite bar and restaurant, horse riding facilities, a bar, restaurant and café onsite and 5km of pristine river frontage, the property is well equipped for holiday makers. Paddle a large Canadian-style canoe down a scenic stretch of river, or ride a tyre tube down the rapids to get the heart pumping. A walking trail on the property takes in mountain views and one of the river’s best swimming holes, and dozens more bushwalks are available in the Barrington Tops National Park – just ask at reception for maps and details. Spot wallabies, kangaroos, bandicoots, possums and koalas or watch out for the river’s famous platypus population at dawn and dusk.
Groupies stay in a Queen Boutique Room that opens onto a beautiful shady verandah, with a bottle of wine waiting on arrival. Enjoy a spectacular 90-minute guided horse trail ride on one day of the stay, and return to discounted drinks at the onsite bar between 4pm and 6pm daily. Deals on dinner and Devonshire Teas further sweeten the stay, while late 12pm checkout helps guests depart feeling blissfully relaxed. Riverwood Downs is a pet-friendly property.

We had a very relaxing stay in one of the cabins at Riverwood Downs during off season. It was the perfect place for us to find some tranquility and also some good bush walks around the Barrington Tops. With hardly anyone else staying there we had amazing wildlife and enjoyed that very much

I started going to riverwood downs as a kid, camping with my family and our family friends. We haven't stopped! All us kids are in our teens and early twenties and we still go back and have just as much fun every year. The landscape is just beautiful, we love the big green rolling hills and the fresh air.
