The Hotel: Clarendon Forest Retreat

Clarendon Forest Retreat is a scenic country escape nestled between the Manning Valley and Forster in the Kiwarrak State Forest. With seven private cottages spread across 100 acres, holidaymakers can take advantage of secluded accommodation with views of rolling hills, deep valleys and a lily-filled lagoon. The retreat’s accommodation in the middle of the country is ideal for couples, families and groups who want to take a short break or have a weekend away.

Each cottage is unique, giving guests the opportunity to choose the style of accommodation that is right for them. Couples choose from three cottages designed for romantic escapes. The Sanctuary is a split-level sandstone and cedar cottage nestled under the trees and surrounded by private gardens. The cottage creates a private world of lazy days, picnics, snuggling up on the satin sofa and relaxing in the heated spa. Another retreat for couples is The Chapel; a façade for a luxury split-level cottage within the sandstone building. The Chapel has high ceilings, gothic windows and a collection of antiques to add a touch of old world romance. Cedar glass doors surrounding the spa pool keep guests cosy in winter, or can be opened onto the private deck shaded by a pergola. The Hideaway is a 4.5-star cottage with panoramic views of forest valleys and a dam with a north facing balcony that is ideal for entertaining. Designed with mudbrick and jarrah facilities, this cottage is designed for one or two couples.

Families or larger groups can embrace the serenity of the bush in one of three large cottages including The Summer House. This split-level sandstone and cedar cottage gives panoramic views of the private valley, with its own tennis court, full-sized kitchen and heated spa pool. The Talawahl Eco Cottage is a purpose-built environmentally friendly construction with passive solar design. Large windows wrap around the verandah, offering views of the lily-filled lagoon and with plenty of room for kids and pets to run around. The teenager’s retreat downstairs provides extra privacy and space for both adults and children alike. The Waterlily Cottage is a three-bedroom cottage with an open loft and ensuite, open plan dining, lounge and kitchen area, and a balcony spa. Last, but not least, is the Tara Lodge, a four-bedroom family cottage ideal for four couples, or a large family of eight people. Forest views greet guests from every side of the large wrap-around verandah, which stands complete with a heated spa, outdoor seating, and a gas BBQ. Pets are allowed into this cottage with management approval.

All guests get back to basics by embracing the property’s serene surrounds, spending the day horse riding, and sipping wine in the heated spas.
