The Experience

Travellers can discover the gems of China during this tour visiting Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, and Huangzhou. Holiday-goers will have the opportunity to visit the famous Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City, as well as walk along The Great Wall of China and marvel at the way traditional jade ornaments are made in the local factory. The tour will lead participants through the ancient sites, modern streets and natural landscapes alike. The tour also includes a visit to the Grand Bao’en Temple, the second oldest temple in China, Lion Grove Garden and one of the largest silk factories in the country. The tour aims to offer opportunities for education, enrichment and shopping with some stops designed solely to allow for local products and souvenirs purchase.

The Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Beijing:

  • Start the adventure with the international flight to Beijing and meet the local guide who helps with the transfer to the hotel

Day 2: Beijing (breakfast, lunch):

  • Visit the famous Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City full of historical jewels from the Ming and Qing dynasties
  • Optional programme:
    • $30 per person: rickshaw ride along Beijing Hutongs and a visit with a local family
    • $60 per person: visit to the Temple of Heaven and a lesson in Tai Chi boxing
    • $30 per person: dinner of Peking Duck
    • $60 per person: night performance of Kung Fu Legend

Day 3: Beijing (breakfast, lunch):

  • Take a step on the famous Juyong Pass segment of the Great Wall of China - surrounded by rugged mountains, this part of the wall is characterised by the Cloud Platform gate, a white marble fortification standing at 9.5 metres tall
  • Stop at the largest jade carving factory in Beijing and learn the history of using the gem through the imperial dynasties
  • Something more recent awaits at the site of the 2008 Olympic Games where structures like Bird’s Nest and Water Cube await to stun the visitors
  • Unwind with a stop at a traditional Chinese medicine centre
  • Optional programme:
    • $60 per person: Summer Palace visit and scenic Houhai area
    • $30 per person: hot pot dinner

Day 4: Beijing to Nanjing (breakfast, lunch):

  • After breakfast, take a bullet train from Beijing to Nanjing and get to the must-visit Mausoleum of Dr Sun Yat-Sun who is revered as the father of the Republic of China - the first democratic regime of the country
  • Stop by a local jade shop and see the differences in the workmanship of the different areas
  • Optional programme:
    • $65 per person: night tour of Confucius Temple area and a boat ride on Qinhuai River

Day 5: Najing to Suzhou (breakfast, lunch):

  • Take a tour of Grand Bao’en Temple, the second oldest temple in China
  • Visit a crystal artefacts shop and learn how Feng Shui culture connects with them
  • Transfer from Nanjing to Suzhou, dubbed as Oriental Venice and famous for its silk
  • Marvel at the natural beauty of Lion Grove Garden, one of Suzhou’s Great Four Classic Gardens
  • Optional programme:
    • $45 per person: boat ride on the Grand Canal

Day 6: Suzhou to Hangzhou (breakfast, lunch):

  • Learn about silk products and how they’re made in the largest silk factory of the region
  • Proceed to Hangzhou and take in the sights of the most scenic area of the region during a boat ride on the West Lake
  • Optional programme:

Day 7: Hangzhou to Shanghai (breakfast, lunch):

  • Stop at a famed tea plantation where guests can try tea-picking and learn about how tea is processed
  • Drive to Shanghai and take a stroll along the Bund area
  • Optional programme:
    • $45 per person: night cruise on Huangpu River

Day 8: Shanghai (breakfast):

  • Free time in Shanghai
  • Optional programme:
    • $110 per person: half-day tour of Zhujiajiao Water Town including lunch
    • $110 per person: visit to a Jinmao Tower and Asia-Pacific Plaza

Day 9: Shanghai Departure (breakfast):

  • Free time until hotel check-out at 12pm before a transfer to the airport and return flight to Australia

  • Typically, arrival at the home city happens next day from the departure
  • Extension booking of the hotel room and tour to other China cities can be individually arranged with the travel operator at extra charge

• As this is a sight-seeing and shopping tour, there are designated local shopping stops on this tour; however, there is no obligation to purchase anything

• During the tour, optional programs to enrich the group’s cultural and recreational experience in China are prepared during which a tour guide will accompany the members who choose to take the optional tour - as indicated in the itinerary some of those will be held on days the regular group activity happens; under such circumstances, those who don't join the optional tour may spend the time exploring the area on their own before the group's return to the hotel or take a taxi to the hotel at their own cost

• The group has agreed on itinerary and schedule, all members are supposed to follow the group during the tour - any traveller who leaves the group before the tour ends is personally responsible for their losses, safety and other issues that might occur; their prepaid amount won't be refunded and they will have to pay extra cost caused by the flight changes and other fees

• Order of travel and visit may be adjusted due to scheduling and other unforeseen circumstances, appropriate notice of those changes will be communicated to all travellers
