The Experience

The encounter with China starts in Beijing, the country’s fast-beating heart which blends racing towards the future with ancient sights like the Great Wall of China and Forbidden City. Then, the tour makes its way via Wuxi, an ancient city famous for its scenic Lake Tai and lush greenery, the canal-crossed Suzhou, and a tea plantation where travellers can cleanse their pallets before heading to Shanghai, the commercial epicentre of the country and the final stop of the tour. 

The Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Beijing

Fly to Beijing and take a transfer to the hotel. Please note that depending on the flight schedule, some flights might depart a day earlier.

Day 2: Beijing (breakfast)

  • Head to see one of the world’s largest public plazas, the Tiananmen Square, which is home to the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the National Museum of China and the Mausoleum of Chairman Mao Zedong; the square has also been witness to many important events in the local history

Optional activity:

  • Forbidden City tour - this architectural masterpiece was the imperial palace from the Ming to the Qing dynasty; now, it is home to a museum and the largest collection of ancient wooden structures
  • Peking Duck Dinner - a local speciality

Day 3: Beijing (breakfast)

  • Head out to see the majestic Great Wall of China at the Juyong Pass and learn more about its construction; then, make a stop to see of Asia’s biggest jade exhibitions and visit a Cloisonne Factory

Day 4: Beijing (breakfast)

Day 5: Beijing - Wuxi (breakfast)

Day 6: Wuxi - Suzhou (breakfast)

  • Start the day with a freshwater pearl exhibition before heading to Suzhou, an elegant city with canals, stone bridges and numerous gardens, and visit the Lingering Garden

  • Grand Canal Cruise - cruise the waters of the UNESCO-listed Grand Canal to observe life along what was known as ‘China’s golden waterway’ in its heyday

Day 7: Suzhou - Hangzhou (breakfast)

  • Head to a silk-spinning mill to take a closer look at the silk production starting from mulberry-munching silkworms and ending with fine threads
  • Proceed to Hangzhou and enjoy a boat ride on the West Lake which is famous for its serene beauty blending with historical sites

Day 8: Hangzhou - Shanghai (breakfast)
