The Experience

This seven-day guided trek serves as an opportunity to discover Peru’s most famous gem - the iconic Machu Picchu. During the trek, participants will walk along original paved Inca pathways and learn more about the culture and traditions of this ancient civilisation. The variety of fascinating Inca sites and the breathtaking sceneries of Machu Picchu will make this trip an unforgettable experience. 

The Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Cusco

  • Transfer from the airport to the hotel
  • The rest of the morning to be used to adapt to the altitude (approximately 3400 metres)
  • In the afternoon, travellers will visit the Inka Museum and Sun Temple of Cusco, the centre of Inka civilisation
  • Overnight hotel stay in Cusco

Day 2: Leisure time and optional activities

  • Feel free to explore the old capital of the Inca Empire with its colonial churches, numerous parks, genuine Inca walls and browse the stalls offering handmade goods ranging from weavings to stonework
  • Overnight hotel stay in Cusco

Day 3: Inka trail to Machu Picchu - Piscacucho to Wayllabamba (12 km)

  • Breakfast and transfer to the starting location of the trail, known as kilometre 82
  • During the trekking, visit Patallacta city and the military post of Willkarakay 
  • Walk along the banks of the River Cusichaca and enter the valley of Wayllabamba
  • Overnight campsite stay in Wayllabamba

Day 4: Inka trail to Machu Picchu - Wayllabamba to Pacaymayu (11 km)

  • Trek through a dense Andean forest to the campsite of Three Stones for a short break
  • Trek continues to another campsite, Llulluchapampa, where a longer break with snacks and hot drinks will take place
  • Final part of the trek - reach the highest point of the trek, Warmihuañusca, (4,215 metres altitude) boasting breathtaking panoramic views of the valleys below
  • Descend to Pacaymayu campsite for an overnight stay

Day 5: Inka trail to Machu Picchu - Pacaymayu to Wiñayhuana (15 km)

  • Trek to the archaeological sites of Runkurakay and Sayacmarca
  • Lunch at Chaquicocha
  • Trek through a forest of clouds to Phuyupatamarka boasting views of the Sacred Valley, numerous mountains and the final destination - the iconic Machu Picchu
  • Overnight campsite stay in Wiñayhuayna

Day 6: Inka trail to Machu Picchu - Wiñayhuayna to Machu Picchu (5 km)

  • Early morning start to reach the Sun Gate, the entrance to Machu Picchu; hopefully there will be a chance to see the magnificent sunrise in the Andes
  • 2-hour tour to learn more about the history and culture of the area
  • Travellers will have leisure time to explore the citadel on their own
  • In the afternoon, bus transfer to the town of Aguas Calientes for lunch and then return to Cusco by train
  • Overnight hotel stay in Cusco

Day 7: Optional walking tour

  • Relax or join the walking tour of Cusco and visit Plaza de Armas with its cathedral and colonial houses, San Blas neighbourhood, the twelve angle stone and San Pedro local market
  • Afternoon transfer to the airport for the departure flight
