Bar Manager Jack is excellent This review is for the bar and specially for the bar manager Jack. What a great guy, very wine knowledgeable and committed. Very open guy who wants to do his best for the residents. We had a really good conversation about Australian wine.

The Area: Canberra

Canberra is a planned metropolis that architect Walter Burley Griffin envisioned as a garden city for some 25,000 people. Canberra is currently home to about 300,000 people. However, due to the unique sprawled and de-centralized design, the city maintains its small-town atmosphere.

As well as being home to some of the country’s most significant monuments and museums, Canberra’s unique attractions include the annual ‘Celebration of Spring’ flower festival Floriade, in which more than a million blooms go into the show. As well as the stunning exhibits, there are also horticultural workshops, music, local artistry, and events that include the spectacular Floriade NightFest. The stunning man-made lakes, hot air balloon displays, local wineries, fine dining, natural wildlife, and blossoming nightlife all contribute to Canberra’s bush-city charm.

Could be better In town for a golfing trip we stayed one night. Sounded a good deal with $25 drinks voucher per room. But when a glass of rose is $16 & prosecco $17, it wasn’t such a good deal! Outrageous prices for no names brand. That’ll teach me to look at the menu first! Room was clean, but a bit tired - handle missing from wardrobe door - didn’t anyone notice? I reported it. The usual hunt the power point & as always located in positions that required shoulder dislocation to access. The only power point for the kettle was in the bathroom! No free parking for guests - another $25! But it is secure underground parking. Breakfast was very good, so a plus there. Overall, it was ok, but I’ll be drinking elsewhere next time!

Good for families, but needs a spruce up The staff, upon arrival, were rude and unwelcoming. It was like we were an inconvenience to their conversation. The room was family room was large, but tired with sgging broken furniture and curtains and worn and dirty carpet. The positives are that the bathroom is very large with a bath and separate shower, double sinks, and ventilation fan. Although the towels were tiny and very thin, you only got one each. They are more like a large hand towel. There is a small fridge and kettle. There is no microwave, which is a missed opportunity for families. There was a small sink in the lounge area. The room looked over the mezzanine and restaurant. You could open the window but there was no freash air and the room smelt like stale smoke and mens cologne. The bed was huge and very comfortable, although the pillow ls were very thin and you only got two and had to ask for more. Which leads me to ask for anything. They didn't answer the phone at reception, so I went down to the desk, but there was no one round. A few people were waiting around, and eventually, someone came. They seemed harrassed. There were kids running around in the lobby screaming and some on scooters tearing around. It seemed chaotic and dangerous if they smashed into someone. There seemed to be a lack of staff the whole weekend. The bar and restaurant were also a disappointment. The food was processed, and a big ordeal to order and a long wait. The restaurant has a nice ambience, but it's quite dark, and kids run around. There is parking for $25.00 per night. You need a car as it's a long walk to any shops or amenities in Manuka. Overall, the room is good for families coming to Canberra, but dont expect luxury. The rooms are not cheap, which is disappointing for the level of service and quality.

Exceptional staff, clean and pleasant hotel Rydges Canberra – Exceptional Staff, Average Breakfast I recently stayed at Rydges Canberra and was genuinely impressed by the dedication and professionalism of the staff. Despite clearly being short-staffed and under significant pressure, every team member I encountered—from reception to housekeeping and the bar—was warm, helpful, and doing their best to ensure a pleasant stay. Their efforts didn’t go unnoticed and are a real credit to the hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location is ideal for both business and leisure. However, the experience was let down by the buffet breakfast and hair conditioner that appeared to be mixed with body wash. The food was underwhelming, possibly caused by a huge influx of rude and greedy travellers prior to us. Given the standard of the rest of the hotel, the breakfast didn’t meet expectations. Still, the staff’s commitment and kindness made a strong impression, and I hope management gives them the support they clearly need—and takes steps to improve the breakfast offering. With a few tweaks, this could yet again be a standout stay in Canberra. The staff are sensational!

Perfect location. Great location, large room & helpful staff. Very convenient for attractions in the Parliamentary area & an easy walk to Manuka shops. Great food & beverage offers if you're a member of the Priority Guest Rewards program-the buffet breakfast is outstanding!
