Great room, loud music due to wedding and Christmas parties Booked last minute for a night away with my 4yo daughter after exploring the area. I was called by staff a few hours before check in to alert me that there was a wedding onsite and that my room would be loud. Thankfully they were able to move us to the other side of the hotel away from the wedding. However on this side of the hotel was another function - maybe a Christmas party? With lots of people Yahooooooing And then across the marina another Christmas party with loud music until 1030pm. Thankfully my 4yo didn’t seem too worried about the music, I was singing along in my head waiting for it to stop. Loved the pool and room otherwise. And the staff were great. Just something to think about if you book in wedding or Christmas party season for a weekend stay.

Just not good enough I had previously stayed at a Sails Hotel and didn’t like it but the travel agent said this one was good. He was wrong. It’s at the marina but also next to an industrial estate so the approach is not great and it’s kind of miles from the town and the beaches. So not a great start. Our first interaction was with a surly, bored receptionist who almost relished telling us that the car park was an extra $15 and only lasted until 1pm the next day. No concierge so hefting our own luggage up to the second floor to discover our room overlooked the salubrious car park where at 6am the next morning we were woken by the sound of delivery Lorrie’s reversing. The room itself is like a Premier Inn. Functional without being either interesting or luxurious but ok. The restaurant was also functional- our steaks weren’t great but they weren’t awful. The real killer was that they shut the bar at 9pm. On a Saturday night. When challenged they said they usually closed around that time because there were no customers. Except there was is but we didn’t seem to count. Breakfast was another one from left field. When arriving you get asked if you want to pay extra for barista coffee or whether the standard stuff is ok for you. Unbelievable. This hotel chain probably thinks they’re good. They’re not. Almost all the staff are morose and unhelpful. The checkout lady was at least cheerful but kind of spoiled it by trying to charge us again for the prepaid breakfast. I shall be having words with the travel agent for putting us in here and I won’t make the mistake of using a Sails again.

Stunning hotel overlooking Hastings river although is let down in other areas The hotel is lovely and has an absolutely stunning pool area which overlooks the Hastings river. The location of the hotel is somewhat out of the way from the main hub of Port Macquarie. This is okay but personally I much prefer staying at Rydges, which is closer to restaurants, beaches and the Breakwall for walks. I do like Zebu (Rydges) as well. It has a wider of selection of food and larger entertaining area, only $21 for a cocktail. Food and drinks at Sails are very expensive too. Unfortunately, when we stayed over New Year for 6 nights, the pool area was overrun by small children, 20 young children sitting in the spa is off putting to others who would like to enjoy the spa too. The hotel management should take this into consideration that we are all paying a premium amount to stay at this hotel. Children jumping in and out of a spa splashing others who would like to sit there in peace, is not enjoyable. Their parents just sit there and “do not discipline their children” jumping off the water feature and diving into the pool when there is a sign that clearly states not to do this. The hotel needs to monitor this issue a bit more closely. Not only is it annoying to others, it is a danger to children.

Disappointing This hotel was fine for a one night stay while driving from Brisbane to Sydney. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful throughout the hotel. Our room was clean and the bed comfortable, but the public area needs and rooms need a little tender loving care. The carpets in the public areas definitely need replacing as they are worn and dirty, while there was a lot of chipped paint in the room. What really let the hotel down was the restaurant, dinner was fine - nothing remarkable but fairly average, breakfast on the other hand was extremely poor. The croissant were sadly rancid, the bacon was gray and we avoided the cooked breakfast. They had run out of teaspoons which seemed rather odd. At the price point, this is overpriced and disappointing.

2 day stay at very good hotel A fantastic hotel with a great outlook. Staff were very friendly, rooms are to a high standard. I really like the hotel but feel very strongly it should be an adults only hotel. The pool area is small and relaxation was not possible due to kids shouting, screaming and jumping in (despite notices not to). Further breakfast was spoiled due to kids screaming and running around. The hotel is not big enough for separate kids area so don’t let poorly supervised kids spoil it for majority of guests.
