The Experience: 12-Day Brazil & Peru Tour

Stretches of white-sand beaches, lush rainforests and cascades of roaring waterfalls wake up the imagination of many. Embark on a 12-day adventure leading through the wonders of Brazil and Peru, such as the mighty Iguazu Falls, the ancient Machu Picchu, as well as Rio and Lima, both buzzing with energy and music but also historical heritage.

The Itinerary

Day 1: Rio de Janeiro

  • Transfer to the hotel

Day 2: Rio de Janeiro (meals: breakfast)

  • In the morning, take a panoramic tour of downtown to see the Metropolitan Cathedral, Aterro do Flamengo Park and Urca with its iconic Sugarloaf Mountain
  • Take a cable car to get to the top of the hill and take in the picture-perfect views of Guanabara Bay and its islands, as well as Copacabana beach, the Santa Cruz fortress and beaches of Niterói
  • Transfer back to the hotel, leisure time for the rest of the day
  • Optional tour: Samba Show, Ginga Tropical, a show combining diversity and cultural dances and music (min. 2 participants, only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays - please enquire about the cost with the Travel Provider)

Day 3: Rio de Janeiro (meals: breakfast)

  • Day at leisure
  • Optional tour:
    • Barra de Tijuca, Rio’s longest beach, and panoramic views of Olympic Park (min. 2 participants, approx. 6 hours)
    • Corcovado Mountain tour - a chance to visit the statue of Christ the Redeemer (min. 2 participants, approx. 4 hours)
    • Please enquire about the cost with the Travel Provider

Day 4: Rio de Janeiro - Foz do Iguassu (meals: breakfast)

  • Transfer to the airport for a flight to Foz do Iguassu and transfer to the hotel upon arrival
  • In the afternoon, embark on a tour of the Brazilian side of the Falls; visit the main centre of the park to learn more about its ecosystem and take a hike to take in the waterfall views before returning to the main point with the panoramic elevator
  • Optional tour: the Bird Park: set at the entrance of National Park, it is home to 150 species  and a butterfly nursery and reptiles (please enquire about the cost with the Travel Provider)

Day 5: Foz do Iguassu (meals: breakfast)

  • Head to Argentina to see the other side of the Falls; cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge over the Iguassu River and continue through a scenic highway up to the park
  • See the awe-inspiring Devil’s Throat, largest of the Argentinean Falls, including the San Martin Falls
  • On the way back, make a stop at the “Three Borders” where Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay meet
  • Optional: the Big Adventure Tour combining rainforest and waterfalls, as well as a boat ride on the Iguazu inferior river canyon, the Tres Mosqueteros (Three Musketeers) falls, Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) and the San Martín falls (it is recommended to take an extra pair of shoes and a change of clothes - participants will get wet; please enquire about the cost with the Travel Provider)
    • Certain visitors are not allowed to ride Great Adventure or Nautical Adventure navigation: people with osteoporosis, neck, back conditions or surgery, with heart conditions or surgery, with COPD or neurological condition or surgery, and those unable to handle a nautical emergency on the lower Iguazu River

Day 6: Foz do Iguassu - Lima (meals: breakfast)

  • Optional tour: Itaipu dam panoramic tour; see the world’s largest hydroelectric dam and stop at different panoramic viewpoints (please enquire about the cost with the Travel Provider)
  • In the evening, transfer to the airport for a flight to Peru (evening flight)

Day 7: Lima (meals: breakfast)

  • Take a half-day tour to visit the modern and colonial parts of the city; visit the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, pass by a Huaca or sacred pre-Inca site and make a stop at Parque del Amor (Lovers Park) in Miraflores overlooking the Pacific Ocean. 
  • Another highlight of the tour is the Main Square with the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop´s Palace, the Municipality of Lima and the Cathedral are located, as well as one of the largest colonial-era convents

Day 8: Lima - Cuzco - Sacred Valley (meals: breakfast)

  • Take a transfer to the airport for a flight to Cusco
  • Then, head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas
  • The Valley allows for better acclimatization due to its lower altitude
  • Rest of the day at leisure to rest and get used to the altitude

Day 9: Sacred Valley - Aquas Calientes, Machu Picchu (meals: breakfast, lunch)

  • Spend the full day touring the authentic Sacred Valley; head to Chinchero to visit the PARWA Centre to take a llok at traditional textiles; then, visit the Spanish Chinchero church and stop at the Racchi Viewpoint
  • Descend to the town of Ollantaytambo which still maintains some of the Inca urban planning features
  • In the afternoon, take a train to Machu Picchu

Day 10: Machu Picchu - Cuzco (meals: breakfast, lunch)

  • Take a transfer to the archaeological site and learn more about its history from a professional tour guide
  • Once the guided tour is over, make the most of some free time to explore the site on your own
  • Descent to Aguas Calientes for some lunch
  • Board train in Aguas Calientes and transfer back to Cusco.

Day 11: Cuzco (meals: breakfast)

  • Enjoy a day at leisure in Cusco to visits its wonders, such as Temple of the Sun (Koricancha), San Blas artisan’s neighbourhood, the Cathedral and the Inca Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, or just relax
  • Optional tour: city tour, Sacsayhuaman and the nearby archaeological sites; visit the city’s landmarks, head to the hilltop fortress of Sacsayhuaman and the complex of Kenko overlooking Puca Pucara (please enquire about the cost with the Travel Provider)

Day 12: Cuzco - Lima (meals: breakfast)

  • Take a transfer to the airport for a flight to Lima, the tour ends

If travellers do not have a LATAM international e-ticket number or fail to provide this to the South American Tourism Office they will be required to pay a surcharge of $895 per person to cover these airfares
