The Area: Hobart, TAS
Hobart provides a stepping stone to some of the island’s must-see attractions, such as the Tasman National Park and Derwent Valley. Venturing through the rugged terrain is one thing, but if time permits, take a scenic flight or sailing cruise for views from a different perspective. For the adventurous, a bike tour down the slopes of Mount Wellington will provide thrills as well as panoramic views over Hobart.
The Salamanca Markets are open every Saturday morning and offer a variety of crafts, gifts and food sold out of historic warehouses initially used for whaling in the 19th century. Just behind the markets is Battery Park, a bastion of the city’s former architectural style, where sandstone buildings offer a little slice of Hobart’s history. Travellers looking to sample some of the Apple Isle’s cultural highlights should hit up the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, which features arts craft and historical exhibition designed to give guests a total view of the Tasmanian experience.
