How do I use my eBay discount code?

Select the deal you want to use and copy the code if there is one. Follow the link through to eBay. Shop as usual, and when you’re ready to check out, select the cart icon at the top of your screen. On the ‘review items and postage’ page, fill in your shipping and payment details. At the bottom of the screen, there’s a box labelled ‘enter vouchers or coupons’ - enter your code here and hit ‘apply’ to redeem.

What is the eBay returns policy?

For most items, there’s a straightforward return process - before you buy, make sure your seller accepts returns; in which case you’ll be entitled to a refund. The seller will have a designated timeframe of either 30 or 60 days for return notifications. To begin your return, head to your purchase history on your eBay account and select ‘return item’.

How much does eBay shipping cost?

Like with returns, there’s a range of shipping options with eBay, depending on your seller. You’ll be given an expected delivery date when you confirm your purchase; and there are also options to click and collect or pick up your order.

Where can I read eBay seller reviews?

When viewing a product, you’ll also be able to see the seller. Select their name and you’ll be taken to their profile where you can view reviews and their overall rating.

How do I manage my eBay account?

Head to eBay.com.au and select ‘My eBay’. After you’ve signed in, you can make changes to your account and review your purchase history.

10 Surprising Facts about eBay

We’ve all grown to know and love eBay over the years. The e-commerce platform has given us the chance to buy and sell a variety of goods, from cars to packets of tissue. But how much do we really know about the retail giant? Here are 10 facts you might not be aware of.

1 - What's the Point in That?

The first item ever sold on the platform was a laser pointer, which went for a mere $14.83. To make what was already a pretty random purchase even odder was the fact the pointer was broken.

Odder still? The buyer was perfectly happy with his purpose, as he specifically collected faulty laser devices.

2 - The Original Name

The first name given to eBay was “Auction Web”. I think it’s safe to say it doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as the powerhouse which is now a household name

3 - A Yacht of Money has Been Spent on eBay

The most expensive item ever sold on the site? A yacht. This went for a staggering $168m, and was sold to Chelsea owner and Russian Oligarch Roman Abramovich. With a net worth of roughly $7.6bn, it was probably little more than chump change to him.

4 - The UK Dominates

19 million people from the UK will visit the site on a daily basis, with more items bought every month per capita than any other country in the world. We always knew those Brits were good at hounding out a deal.

5 - A New Species Discovered

Amazingly, eBay is directly responsible for the discovery of a totally new species of sea urchin. When a shell was put up for sale in Montana, Simon Coppard, who works at the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature at The Natural History Museum in London, spotted it was unique.

6 - James Blunt Sells his Sister

In order to raise funds for his first album, James Blunt turned to eBay to sell a wide variety of his possessions. One day, he came home to discover his sister crying, because she couldn’t afford to attend a funeral in Ireland.

As a result (and with her consent) he put a listing up saying: “Damsel in distress seeks knight in shining armour!”. Amazingly, someone took him up on the offer. More amazingly, his sister and the chap who helped her out ended up getting married.

7 - The Jack Sheng Room

Jack Sheng was the first eBay seller to achieve a 1,000,000 seller feedback score on the site. While that was an achievement enough in and of itself, Jack was also honoured by having a meeting room named after him at eBay headquarters.

8 - More Naming Quirks

But it’s not just meeting rooms which are named in this way. Every building at eBay HQ has taken its name from one of the categories on their site. Currently, names include the likes of Toys, Motors, Music, Sports, Collectibles, Jewellery and Technology.

9 - A High Percentage of New Items

Despite the reputation the site has come to garner, an estimated 81% of items which are sold on eBay are actually brand new. Sellers are no longer just people looking to get rid of old and unwanted possessions. They’re dedicated small businesses looking for success on the site.

10 - Breaching a Leak

Remember the Darkness? Frontman Justin Hawkins once used eBay to hunt down who it was who leaked their album early. He spent £350 on the disc, which was encoded with a name and number. That meant they could trace the origins of the person who sold the CD illegally.

Growing your own business with eBay

As of 2019, eBay has 182 million buyers across 190 markets. That’s a lot of people ready to buy goods, so it’s no surprise that selling on eBay is big business. According to the e-commerce platform, eBay Small Business Sellers have outpaced the overall economy in both advanced and emerging markets.

Every day, more than 250 million searches are performed on eBay – that’s 11 million searches per hour, 190,000 searches per minute and 3,000 searches per second.
For anyone looking to start a business on eBay, January is the busiest time, with around a 30% surge in new business sellers at the start of the year. And with figures showing that the top 10 most successful new businesses registered on eBay last year turned over a combined £6m through their online stores, it’s no surprise more people are signing up.
