Two stays at Rydges Central Recently, we stayed at Rydges Central before and after our recent cruise. We find Rydges Central convenient because of its closeness to the country bus terminal. It is an easy walk to Albion Street where the Hotel is located. On both occasions, we booked an executive room and were very happy with all aspects of the rooms, cleanliness and amenities provided. It has a very comfortable bed. We had a bed and beakfast package which included continental breakfast selection along with hot dishes including eggs, bacon, hash browns, tomatoes, sausages, mushrooms. All one could want for a hearty breakfast, along with juices, tea and coffee. We also dined in their on-site restaurant for our evening meals. Although the menu is limited in selection, we were happy with our choices. The reception staff at check in and check out were prompt and friendly.

Enjoy a city break in the atmospheric neighbourhood of Surry Hills and be greeted with a welcome drink

The Area: Sydney

A dazzling city boasting waterways, skyscrapers, iconic sights and vibrant nightlife, Sydney is Australia’s version of the city that never sleeps. On the fringe of the action lies the trendy suburb of Surry Hills, decked out with designer boutiques and vintage stores, funky cafés, art galleries and bars for every occasion and audience.

Stroll up to Oxford Street to catch the bus to the city or Circular Quay, where Groupies can take in a show at the Opera House, explore the historic Rocks district, dare to climb the Harbour Bridge or ride the ferry to Manly or Taronga Zoo. Catch the bus in the other direction to swim and sunbake at famous Bondi Beach, before walking around the spectacular headland to quieter Bronte.

Fashionistas hit the shops of Surry Hills’ Crown Street to pick up vintage finds, or walk up Oxford Street to Glenmore Road, which bursts with designer stores including Zimmermann, Alannah Hill and Sass and Bide. Come nightfall, clink glasses in some of Sydney’s hippest small bars in the areas, such as Pocket Bar, Shady Pines or Low 302, before dining at top restaurants like Foveaux, Longrain or Tokonoma.

Really disappointing. Paid around 650 dollars a night for really poor hotel. Room was dark with dirty balcony overlooking smelly street full of garbage and rats. Room was never properly cleaned and had to constantly remind to get towels , tea and milk. Reception staff helpful but constantly having to ask for things. No porter or any help with luggage and not a patch on novetel or ibis and complete rip off. I am really hoping hotel take note and offer compensation. I chose this because have stayed here before and was shocked how standards have dropped

No thanks The location is perfect. I have to say that. Central to everything the CBD has to offer. We parked our car ($58 per night) and then waited for the elevator up… and waited… as far as we could see there were only 2 lifts and they seemed to be going everywhere bar the car park. It was stinking hot down there and by the time they finally got to us we were well and truly over it!!! I mentioned to the lady who checked us in (lovely btw) and I asked for a quiet room and she moved us and upgraded us to a studio room which was a bit bigger. Thank you. The room seemed nice at first but as I like to wipe all things down in hotels I proceeded to and thank god I did! Things were quite filthy. The wipes were coming up black _ Anyway it was late so I didn’t say anything. We got into bed and it wasn’t a bad nights sleep but I had quite a few bites on me in the morning. I’m sure it wasn’t bed bugs and just midges but still…. Very uncomfortable. The elevators in the morning were soooo slow and crowded. Took so long to get anywhere. The hotel itself presented to be quite old and dirty- it needs a good deep clean!!!!! The staff we encountered were so nice though.

Understaffed and Overworked Location is VERY central. Only a short walk from Central railway station. The room is large and I'm sure was once considered luxurious (room is large) but maintenance has been lacking for some years. The staff are doing their best but they are understaffed and overworked. Expensive (long weekend) price. Expected more. Disappointed with poor maintenance and staffing levels.

Great location for a weekend stay Beautiful quiet room with great views. Really appreciated advance notice from the team about a power outage in the area & accommodations made with my booking for this. Bar downstairs was a great place to watch some of the Olympics. I would've liked a bathmat in my bathroom and some options for pillows but otherwise a very comfortable stay.
