FAQs – Whale Watching with Barefoot Blue
Where do we meet? Meet at Eastern Pontoon Wharf, East side of Circular Quay. The boat arrives right on time — please don't be late. Arrive 15 minutes early Show Map
What should I wear/bring? We travel into open ocean, so weather can change quickly.
- Wear warm layers and a waterproof jacket
- Bring a hat, sunglasses, snacks, and a camera

Which whales might I see?
- Frequently seen: Humpback Whales
- Occasionally: Minke, Southern Right, Brydes, Sei, and Blue Whales
- Also spotted: Common & Bottlenose Dolphins, Australian Fur Seals, Orca, and False Killer Whales
How close will we get to the whales?
- Boats must stay at least 100 meters from adult whales by law
- Humpbacks are curious and may come close (called a "mugging")
- Close encounters are not guaranteed
What if no whales are seen?
- You can rebook for free within the same season
- No refunds are provided
- Tours late in the season: you'll receive a voucher for next season
What if it rains?
- Tours depend on ocean conditions, not just rain
- Wind, swell, and visibility are key factors
