FAQs
Where do we meet for the whale watching tour?
Our vessel, BAREFOOT BLUE, will arrive at the Eastern Pontoon Wharf on the east side of Circular Quay right on your pickup time. We highly recommend arriving 15 minutes prior to your scheduled departure to ensure you don't miss out. You can find the exact location here.
What should I wear and bring for the tour?
As our tours venture into the open ocean, weather conditions can be unpredictable. We advise bringing warm clothing, a waterproof jacket, a hat, and sunglasses for comfort. You might also want to bring snacks and, of course, your camera to capture memorable moments. Sharing your photos and videos with us at @lovesydneywhales helps scientists identify migrating whales!
What if no whales are sighted during my tour?
While we make every effort to ensure whale sightings, they are wild animals. In the rare event that no whales are spotted, we offer you the opportunity to join another whale-watching adventure at no additional cost within the current season. If no whales are sighted during the final weeks of the season, a voucher for the following season will be issued. Please note, this offer does not entitle you to a refund.
What is your policy regarding bad weather or rain?
Our tours are dependent on favorable ocean conditions. We typically do not cancel tours solely due to forecasted rain, but heavy rainfall can impact visibility. Decisions to go or not go are based on factors like wind strength, direction, and swell height, using forecasts from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. For updates, please check Captain Dean's Weather update on our Instagram @lovesydneywhales or call the number on our contact page.
How can I get to the departure point at Circular Quay?
Circular Quay is well-served by public transport. You can take a Sydney Ferry directly to Circular Quay Wharf, a train to Circular Quay station (a 5-minute walk), or a bus. Taxis can drop you at Eastern Circular Quay or Moore Steps. If driving, we recommend the Wilson Opera House Carpark, just 100m from the Eastern Pontoon wharf. Please plan to arrive with ample time as tours depart punctually.
