From the very start it was a nightmare, Not even getting outside of our country, and for how this Mystery Getaway is advertised. Really disappointing. We got to Airport, for a 6am flight that is only 1hr, and check in for accommodation not being until 2pm. With having to pay an additional $196 for our luggage, as there wasn't even the 7kg carry on, being on our tickets at the airports end. I had a printed electronic ticket record, and under passenger information stating on dot point #5 "For baggage allowance given in piece (PC), each single piece of baggage (1PC) will not exceed 23kg. Baggage entitlement for an infant travelling will not be more than 10kg.". Also no transfers to and from accommodation and airport, which I think should have been an inclusion, never less we had pre booked a hire car through a third party online, but as there was a curse or something on our holiday, when went to check in for shuttle to pick us up to get hire car, apparently it had been cancelled, still having taking the deposit out of our account. We rang around hire car companies, coming across the actual original company, lovely people, but had to pay, again, nearly double what we had originally been quoted, and paid deposit for. Again not being able to check into accommodation till 2pm, although arriving just after 9am, was not ideal after the morning we had. Eventually checking into room, Had a nice view, but, that was about it. My husband didn't want me to complain, I had taking photos though, alot of photos for my own reference. We didn't even have face washers, only 2 towels, and a bath mat, there was no WIFI for us to even connect to, not even for the TV so we could connect to our own accounts, netflicks etc. TV played up for the free to air, most of the time when we wanted to watch it glitching, and freezing. I had complained, they sent service man, whom was very polite, but to tell me that there internet was not strong enough, not even for the front office, and that the free to air had been playing up for a few guests, but when he looked at TV, ofcourse it worked. He did say to report when and if anything further happened, but as it was mostly late at night when we returned to room, that it would play up, and front desk was rarely maned at those times. I also didn't have front office number to call from Room, also was quite dirty, needing a deep clean. I am not just saying this, I have previously worked in hospitality for many years in 5 star establishments, so was well aware of how a room should be presented to, what level of cleanliness. With, what looked to be mould, and very dusty throughout, I couldn't or should I say wouldn't hang our clothing in wardrobe, or put anything in drawers, they were very dirty, marked, in Bathroom, we actually had a few hairs, with a long black hair stuck on the shower wall. I actually went to shop and purchased cleaning products, and cleaned bathroom so I would feel comfortable using. Although the staff that we had dealt with were beautiful people, the level of cleanliness let the place down.
I purchased 4 vouchers for 2 trips as presents for Christmas. Both were to Melbourne.
The pros: process relatively simple, accommodation was in the city or just on the outskirts which was fine because public transport is amazing in Melbourne.
The cons: everything cost more - ended up costing nearly double the advertised price, they only allow the cheapest of cheap Jetstar flights and cheapest rooms. Paid extra to depart from Brisbane (that's fine it's in the fine print) paid extra to have flights that would connect with other flights in Brisbane (not at 8pm at night), paid extra for dates I wanted (but all dates seemed to cost more). 1st trip we flew into Avalon airport which is much further out of the city than Tullamarine. My flight details (with contact details) were sent to another purchaser, who rang me to advise they'd received them. The add said the first 100 sold received additional extras, was confirmed on the phone that both my purchases qualified and that a week prior to departure another draw would take place to determine what those extras would be. This never happened even though I followed up on both.
Would I do this again - probably not, the unknown expenses come in after you have already purchased your trip so you have to pay extra or forfeit your money. Better to just plan and book your own unless you go in knowing that it will probably cost you double the initial outlay.
