The Great Ocean Road traces a winding route along Victoria’s dramatic coastline, where sheer limestone cliffs are buffeted by rolling surf, and the Twelve Apostles rise like colossal statues out of the sea. Nestled into the feet of the Otway Ranges, Apollo Bay is one of the region’s inviting seaside towns, with golden beaches and plenty of restaurants and activities to tempt the visitor.

Take a day trip (and a camera) to see the wild splendour of the Twelve Apostles, which rise from the ocean about an hour’s drive to the west of Holiday Park. Wake early and get there at sunrise to watch the towering limestone bluffs transform from eerie, shadowy forms in the darkness to shining sentinels under a full sun. Be sure to stop off at nearby Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge to see even more giant natural sculptures.

Take a detour to Cape Otway on the way back, where the road winds through thick forest canopies to reveal native animals and panoramic coastal views from the headland. Get into the swing of Apollo Bay’s fishing heritage and cast out a line in the harbour; or head inland to explore the lush rainforest, waterfalls and walking tracks of the Otway Ranges.
