Those who choose to stay in a Frangipani Bure enjoy spacious tiled dwellings with slatted windows and both indoor and outdoor bathrooms along with a deck from which to admire the gardens. Or travellers chasing added luxury upgrade to the Ocean View Bure, which gazes out to the beach and provides even more space to stretch out. Arrive to a fresh cocktail to welcomes guests into new homes away from home.

Feast on the buffet breakfast each morning and then take advantage of the myriad free activities on-site. Surf the reef break outside the resort or grab a kayak or snorkelling gear to explore the lagoon, then rev things up with a game of beach volleyball or tennis. Try an introductory SCUBA Pool Splash session per person and later hit up the Aqua Lava Rocks spa to sample traditional Fijian therapies and savour a 30-minute massage on the house. Located on Viti Levu’s Coral Coast, Sigatoka is a market town surrounded by resorts that make the most of the glittering beaches framing the south side of the island. Soak up the sun’s rays with a dip in the ocean or simply find a pristine patch of sand to set up camp for the day with a good book. For a more cultural experience, explore Sigatoka itself to find fresh produce, textiles and local fare like curries and samosas from street side vendors.

For those with a taste for adrenalin, more adventure activities await travellers close by. Hop aboard the Sigatoka River Safari for thrills and spills on a custom jet boat while learning about Fijian history and the neighbouring area. Or get below the water during a dive around the famed reefs, meeting colourful creatures and savouring the quietness that comes with being one with the ocean. Environmental warriors will also enjoy a visit to Kula Eco Park, the only breeding centre for endangered Fijian wildlife like iguanas and parrots.

We have just had 10 extremely enjoyable and lazy days at the Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa, and are already planning to return next year. The bures are comfortable and well appointed, and are kept very clean by the lovely housekeeping staff, who were happy to attend to us. We stayed in an ocean view bure and the view out over the water is superb. The food is extremely good, with an excellent range that changes daily, along with an a la carte menu and 3 themed buffets each week to choose from. Portion size from the menu is generous, and of course as much as you want from the buffet. We had the all inclusive food and beverage package, and the food was so good we just ate and ate, but if you don't opt for the package the prices are very reasonable. Faiyez and his kitchen team prepare all of the food in house, and take great pride in pleasing their guests. Dining, bar and activities staff are all very helpful and make you feel wonderfully welcome - we were welcomed by all of the staff from the moment we stepped out of our car until we were gone, with farewells from everyone as we left.

My husband and I arrived home last night after spending the 7 nights all inclusive package in an ocean view bure (No. 55). The view was beautiful, the rooms were clean and tidy, the bathroom a little dated but clean none the less. All of the staff were wonderful, from the bar staff to the cleaners (Aseri) and all the wonderful restaurant staff, particularly Queenie, Estala, Kiti (boo!!), Vi and the hilarious Jule, nothing was too much trouble. The all inclusive package is definitely the way to go, food was delicious, entertainment every night was great and we really did leave feeling like we had been on holiday!!. Also visit the little shop in the arcade onsite to pick up some gifts and say hi to beautiful "Halle Berry" lookalike Lyn. The Hideaway may not be 5 star, but the wonderful staff more than make up for that!! We'll definitely be back!!
