Groupon Recommends

One of the world’s finest and oldest cave systems, Jenolan features 11 show caves as well as adventure caving experiences for adrenaline junkies. The Plughole Adventure Tour, which Groupies take as part of this deal, features a thrilling journey through Jenolan’s majestic Elder Cave, accompanied by highly qualified cave guides. The tour begins with an exhilarating nine-metre abseil into the mouth of the Elder Cave. Following the heart pounding descent, cavers enter a spacious chamber before taking on “The Windows”, a tight but short squeeze. The tour winds on through stunning segments like “The Crystal Chamber”, “The Chapel”, “The Armchair Squeeze” and “The Rockpile” before adventurers emerge victorious in the Imperial Cave. After the tour, check out some of the other caves or walk along one of the trails wending through the tranquil surrounding bushland.

Local Amenities

Jenolan Caves is a three-hour drive from Sydney, and there is plenty of free parking on arrival. The road down into the caves is very steep and there is no petrol station onsite, so guests are advised to fuel up at Mount Victoria, Lithgow or Oberon. There is a café and gift shop at the caves, but it’s a good idea to bring snacks and any necessary personal items as facilities are limited and the nearest town is half an hour away. Groupies should also take plenty of warm, weatherproof clothing as it can get quite cold in the evening, particularly in the cooler months.

Reviews

The drive to Jenolan Caves is great let alone the caves themselves. There are beautiful rolling hills and sandstone cliffs from some view points. You know you've reached Jenolan Caves when you go through a big cave tunnel where some of the guided tours are. I got excited just going through that. Jenolan Caves features a small village with a hotel and restaurant that is surrounded by beautiful flowers. It couldn't look any more European. There are a few small, pretty waterfalls too.

My first stay at Jenolan Caves House dates back to the 1960's. I have been a visitor ever since and I can honestly say that the original magic I felt as a six year old passing through the Grand Arch for the first time in my Dad's car has not dimmed with the years. The hotel is absolutely unique.
